PACKAGING & BOOKLET SPECIFICATIONS
The following specifications are provided to ensure conformity to the automated insertion process for printed materials into a standard CD jewel case. Materials which do not conform to the specifications set forth in these instructions may still be considered workable parts, but require manual insertion at an additional charge.
Dimensional Requirements:
All finished materials and/or submitted artwork must fall within the boundaries and meet all other requirements outlined in the CD booklet specification diagram.
Paper Stock:
Material should be wood-free, non-porous, art paper coated on both sides. Opaque stock is highly recommended to eliminate bleed-through.
Thickness of Finished Booklet:
The total thickness of a finished booklet must not exceed .055" at any of the four corners. As the total thickness of the booklet increases, the thickness (paper weight) of the inner pages must decrease in order to conform to the .055" maximum thickness specification. To ensure conformity, please refer to the paper stock recommendations below:
  • Single and 2-page booklets: Cover sheet 80-100 LB. (Text Weight)
  • 4-8 page booklet: Cover sheet 80-100 LB., inner pages 70-100 LB.
  • 12-28 page booklet: Cover sheet 80-100 LB, inner pages 60-80 LB.
UV Coating and Varnishing:
Do not UV coat or varnish printed materials either before or after printing. High gloss coatings are vulnerable to damage which can affect the appearance of the finished product and may be incompatible with automated equipment, requiring manual insertion.
Single vs. Multi-Page Booklets:
A single sheet booklet may be printed on one or both sides. If printed on both sides, the single sheet is considered a two-page booklet. Single sheet booklets may require a hand packaging surcharge. A multiple page booklet ranges from 4-28 pages, depending on the stock and weight of the paper. The total number of printed pages must be divisible by four or blank pages will be added.
Stapling/Folding:
If applicable, multi-page booklets must be stapled with non-corrosive staples and folded. Unfolded, multi-page booklets are not acceptable. Staples should be 27 gauge for 24-28 page booklets.
